[ChatGPT] Connect and Chat with Counta AI Connector
Authorize your own access to Counta data in ChatGPT
Audience note: This guide is for anyone at your agency connecting their own account. Your admin must have already added and published the Counta AI Connector in your organization's ChatGPT workspace. If you don't see it available to install, contact your admin before starting here.
Overview
The Counta AI Connector, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), lets ChatGPT securely connect to your Counta environment and access master data, transactions, and reports.
After completing this step, you will be able to interact with your Counta data directly through natural language prompts within ChatGPT.
Before you begin:
- Ensure you have access to Counta and know your:
- Tenant ID
- Username (email address)
- Password or API Token
- Confirm you're connecting to the connector matching your environment (Staging or Production), if your agency has access to both. Ask your admin if you're not sure which to use.
- Confirm with your admin what they named the connector when they set it up. It may not appear as "Counta MCP" in your list, depending on what name they chose.

After the Counta connector has been enabled and published by your agency admin, the next step is to connect it to your Counta environment and authorize access.

Working with the Counta AI Connector in ChatGPT
The Counta AI Connector exposes three tools in ChatGPT: Discover, Describe, and Execute. Given a request, Discover returns the relevant Counta endpoints available to you. Describe returns the full details of a specific endpoint, including its parameters and expected inputs and outputs, before anything runs. Execute calls the selected endpoint with the appropriate parameters to carry out the request, whether that's retrieving data or, within the time tracking domain, creating, updating, or approving records in your Counta environment.
These tools let you interact with Counta through natural language instead of navigating screens or writing code.
-
Enter a prompt to ask the Counta Plugin and press the Send button to submit your request.

2. ChatGPT will process the request or ask questions, if any. Click the generated response or document.
