Getting Started with the Counta AI Connector

This is only available for Beta participants.

Overview

Built on MCP, the Counta AI Connector allows AI assistants and AI-powered tools to securely interact with COUNTA using plain-English prompts instead of direct database queries or manual API integrations.

With COUNTA MCP servers, users can:

  • Ask analytical questions in natural language
  • Generate reports and dashboards without writing SQL
  • Retrieve operational data in real time
  • Create and update records through AI-assisted workflows
  • Connect COUNTA to modern AI tools and agents

The conversation becomes the interface.

Instead of navigating database schemas, building custom reports, or manually configuring integrations, AI assistants can interpret requests conversationally, discover the relevant structures, and execute the appropriate actions.

What is an MCP Server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that allows AI tools to securely access external systems through structured tools and actions.

The Counta API connector, built on this protocol, provide real-time access to operational and analytical data from our API.

This allows AI assistants to inspect schema, retrieve data, execute queries, and interact with operational records directly from conversational prompts.

Example Use Cases

Operational Workflows
  • Create time entries
  • Update client records *
  • Retrieve operational data in real time
  • Trigger workflow actions
AI-Powered Operational Assistants

The API MCP can power AI workflows such as:

  • Operational copilots
  • Workflow automation agents
  • AI-assisted onboarding
  • Invoice preparation workflows
  • Estimate drafting assistants *
  • Variance monitoring agents

Questions Become Prompts

Because COUNTA provides a consistent, agency-native schema and analytical layer, AI assistants can interact with the platform conversationally.

Questions that previously required...

  • SQL development
  • BI configuration
  • Custom reporting projects
  • Data model expertise

... can now begin with a plain-English prompt.

Examples:

  • “Show client profitability by office over the last 12 months.”
  • “Which job owners are consistently delivering above target margins?”
  • “Create a quarterly client profitability summary.”
  • “Create a supplier invoice for this vendor.”
  • “Update this estimate with revised revenue values.”

    Security & Access

Access to COUNTA MCP servers is controlled through authentication credentials and environment-specific access.

Permissions and accessible actions depend on:

    • The MCP server being used
    • The authenticated user credentials
    • The connected environment, i.e. Production vs Staging

The API MCP respects COUNTA operational permissions and access controls.

    What This Enables

COUNTA MCP servers create the foundation for AI-powered operational and analytical workflows, including:

    • AI-generated dashboards and reports
    • Conversational business intelligence
    • Automated financial analysis
    • AI-powered operational assistants
    • Workflow automation
    • Cross-platform integrations with tools such as monday.com, CRM platforms, HRIS systems, and AI copilots

The goal is not simply easier reporting — it is enabling AI systems to both understand and interact with agency operations securely and contextually.
