How to Create a Task Type

This article walks you through how to manage Task Types in Accountability.

Task Types in Accountability define the roles, activities, and charge categories used across job estimates, timesheets, and invoicing. They serve as foundational elements for tracking agency work, assigning billable rates, and aligning tasks with job types.

Proper configuration of Task Types ensures accurate financial reporting, consistent time tracking, and streamlined project management.

 

1. Navigate to MASTER FILES > Task Types

2. Click New Task Type button

3. Input data for the following required fields:

  • Task Type Code
  • Task Type Name

4. Click the magnifying glass to the Default Charge Type selection

5. Select Charge Type

6. Click the magnifying glass to expand the Tax Status

7. Select a Tax Status

8. Click Select For Job Types

9. Select the Job Type for the Task Type you created and click the right arrow to transfer the Job Type from Not Selected to Selected

10. Click Save

How to Update a Task Type

11. Search Task Type Code and click Task type code hyperlink.

12. Update Task Type details.

Modify any of the following as necessary:

  • Task Type Code: A unique identifier for the task type used in system records and reporting.
  • Task Type Name: The display name of the task type, used in job setup and task assignment.
  • Default Charge Type: Indicates that charges for this task are based on time spent (e.g., hourly billing).
  • Default Title: The default role or title typically assigned to this task type.
  • Department: Specifies the department responsible for this task type.
  • Heading: A broader category under which this task type falls, useful for grouping similar tasks.
  • Sub Heading: A more specific classification under the heading, if applicable.
  • Default Sort Order: Determines the order in which this task type appears in dropdowns or lists (lower numbers appear first).

13. Update Job Types by clicking Select for Job Types hyperlink

14. Update Job Types by moving them from Not Selected to Selected and vice versa

15. Click Save

How to Delete a Task Type

16. Search a Task Type code and check the checkbox at the left side of the code.

17. Click Delete.

18. Click OK to confirm.
